TASK: I-14-4647 (REHABILITATION) & I-14-4643 (FABRICATION)

This project consisted roadway and bridge rehabilitation along the Tri-State .The rehabilitation included bridge inspections and development contract plans for the rehabilitation.

GKE served as Structural Engineer for the bridge inspection of Tollway mainline over Thornton Quarry (Bridge Numbers 111 & 112). Visual inspection was performed for each bridge. BCR's were completed with cost estimates for the determination of the repairs. Contract documents for the recommended repairs were completed and included various concrete repairs to the substructure and superstructure, bridge deck sealer and expansion joint replacement. During bridge inspection, distress was noted in the pier caps. A load rating analysis was performed and revealed the pier caps rated well below allowable load requirements requiring immediate retro-fitting of the pier caps to bring to a safe level of operation. Tasks also included responding to RFI's during construction phase.
