The scope of work for this project included the Phase I study, design, and plan development for a nine-mile-long stretch of IL 173 from Tiffany Road in Antioch, IL to Old Woodford Road in Rosecrans, IL. The project serves to address several safety, mobility, and accessibility concerns along the corridor. The study compared twenty-three design alternatives. Proposed revisions to the roadway geometry incorporated adding one lane in each direction of travel and a landscaped median, adding a shared use path ,building a curb and gutter with closed drainage system, and redesigning intersections. Five culvert replacements, along with a replacement for the IL 173 over the Des Plaines River bridge, were also among proposed design changes to the corridor.
Garza Karhoff Engineering (GKE) served as a structural engineer consultant for inspecting and preparing condition reports for the five culverts to be replaced as well as preparing preliminary proposed plans for the Des Plaines River bridge replacement. GKE also serviced our civil engineers who assisted with the preparation of proposed roadway plans, comprising of plan and profile sheets, drainage plans with associated hydraulic reports, the Combined Design Report, and exhibits shown in the Agricultural Impact Report and public meetings.
