Opened in 1958, the Illinois Medical District (IMD) station is located on the CTA Blue Line – Forest Park Branch providing 24-hour rail service on 2 tracks. With annual ridership of over 1 million, this station is one of the busiest on the Forest Park Branch and is accessed from three stationhouses: Ogden, Damen and Paulina.  The IMD stop serves four area hospitals (including Rush University Medical Center and Stroger Hospital) in addition to Malcolm X College and the United Center.

The overall rehabilitation project consists of constructing an ADA compliant station that includes stationhouse entrances and routes to the platform that are accessible to people with disabilities, to bring the station to a state of good repair, and to transform the station into an architecturally significant focal point for the community and developing area.

As a sub-consultant to exp U.S. Services, Garza Karhoff Engineering is providing Structural Engineering and Construction Administration services for the project.  The design scope portion of the work included structural investigations of all the existing concrete sloped walkways and platform structure, detailing of structural concrete repairs, and engineering of the new concourse walkway enclosure and portion of the platform canopy structure being built around the new elevator structure at the Ogden Stationhouse. Deliverables include complete design drawings for permit, bid and construction done in Revit 2015 format. For the construction administration portion, Garza Karhoff Engineering is responsible for reviewing all shop drawings and request for information (RFI) documents in a timely manner as related to the entire project scope.
